| I am not a big diet follower, but I am a bit overweight and I have tried a few diets like Atkins and South Beach. Even though I lost some weight (never my target), i always ended up bored out of my mind on these diets. As I read the Perfect 10 Diet, I felt like it was really common sense and addressed a more balanced health goal and menu rather than the extremes of "no carbs!" I also liked that it promoted good fats as part of a healthy diet because I always felt that "low fat" diets were a fraud. Lastly, the section on hormones and their role in health was spot on for me since I have hypothyroidism and getting my thyroids back in balance through medication has made a BIG difference in my ability to lose and keep weight off. So I think this book is worth your read. Thanks. |

I cannot say yet whether this diet will make me lose weight because I have just finished it. What I can say is that it provides a wealth of information about your body and how it is affected by the food we eat. Dr. Aziz focuses on ten major hormones and how they affect our overall health. Their being in balance determines whether or not our bodies go into a disease state and determines whether we can lose weight and keep it off. He explains in detail why a low-fat diet doesn't work and can actually make you sicker and why high-carb only doesn't work and can lead to health problems and increased weight in the long term. Dr. Aziz emphasizes balance in the diet - a diet with fat, and yes, saturated fat is ok, and a diet low in carbohydrates but not without them.
I have read so many books on health, nutrition and diet, I really thought I had some idea about everything and that there would not be much in here that I didn't already know. Consequently, I had this for many months without listening to it. I was wrong. I was so glad this was a CD set because I was able to listen and actually take notes and I took plenty and learned so much. This doctor tells you information, and then he tells you why this information is accurate. It is so thorough. Sometimes I found myself thinking, "Why are you telling me this again?" on some points. However, when I went to the grocery store, I remembered it and realized it really taught me about what I was buying and eating.
I am fascinated by the information I learned in here and I highly recommend this book. I only wish more physicians were like this doctor. We would be so much healthier. Dr. Aziz warns us against just taking recommendations about what we eat, even from places like the American Heart Association. He points out foods and diets that have been recommended by them (often for a fee) turn out to be wrong and even detrimental to our health. When he became so interested in diet and health after he began his private practice, he began extensive research in which he realized so much of what we are being told about our diets is contrary to what is in the scientific and medical research data. It is detailed as he goes over everything, primarily the hormones and how each affects your overall health and how food affects them.
5 Stars + for the information alone. I will post again as far as effectiveness for weight loss. |

| The author of this book clearly does not like soy. His statement about women with breast cancer avoiding soy because it "can lead to progression of the disease" is false. I am a breast cancer survivor and a vegetarian. I have followed the research on soy and breast cancer for years and the most recent opinion is soy does not cause breast cancer nor does it lead to a "progression of the disease." Given this biased viewpoint, I am inclined to be suspicous of his other statements as well. I'm sorry I purchased the book and would not recommend it to anyone else. The Mayo Clinic Diet is a much better program. |

I have not purchased this book yet but I probably will. I must say I am put off by some of the claims people are reporting. Claims like, "low carb diets don't work". I have lost 75 pounds over the last year on what is essentially an Atkins diet and I am having no problem at all sticking to the diet and maintaining my new weight of 175, down from 250.
The reason I am intrigued with this book however, is that even though Atkins is working perfectly for me, it is much harder for my wife to stick with. She is doing ok, but Atkins messes her Seratonin up more than mine I guess. So a book that talks about balancing hormones sounds intriguing. Plus the basic advice sounds very similar to Atkins anyway except for the lower carb levels in Atkins.
I doubt I will follow this diet, but I may adopt aspects of it into my diet. I always feel free to adapt to my purposes. For example this book apparently tells you not to drink very much. Well, I am sure that is much healthier, but I am not going to give up drinking. I do avoid beer though, since it is just junk carbs.
Anyhow, you can lose weight and keep it off. I think many different diets can work, but rather than getting caught up in a fad you need to realize that if you need to lose weight the diet is NOT temporary. It has to be part of a permanent lifestyle change. So it is important to find a diet that you can live with forever. It does not mean you never violate it. My strategy is to have good diet discipline during the week so that when I go out for dinner on weekends or cook at home, I can be more liberal with what I eat. It works for me, but I also exercise a lot now. Good luck with your diets people, and I am looking forward to reading this book. |

| This book really educated me in an easy to understand way about how my body works and how different types of foods affect my hormones, appetite, and health. I used to suffer from terrible headaches because my hormones were out of wack, but not any more. The information is very common sense and much of it contradicts the established mantra we are bombarded with which makes perfect sense when you consider that what the "experts" and government agencies are telling us is not working. America is an unhealthy and obese nation and the FDA and AMA basically turn a blind eye to it, and drug companies are getting rich on it. Educate yourself and live a healthy life just as we were created to! |

| I was not impressed by this book. I did not read the whole book, but felt like it was a somewhat expensive diet plan. I guess that's probably what it really takes to lose weight though, is spening more to get the right foods. Maybe this will be just the book for you, especially if you are bored with your current diet. |
Solid principles - can be redundant - good for dieting newbies

I'm not really sure if this should be called a diet or a way of life. If you are a really poor eater and sedentary, this is a great place to start. However, I am really active already - exercising WAY more than what is recommended, so this did limit how much I could apply some of the diet principles. However, I really appreciated that this Aziz's diet is based on science, which is presented fairly clearly if not simplistically. This did let me see where I could make improvements in my nutrition and also see why some days my diet really does affect my performance (and pinpoint those foods). So, that was a bonus. I found him very redundant though. Also, there may have been too much full fat in his diet as it really upset my stomach - however, this was easily adjusted. I don't tolerate sugar (which this diet virtually eliminates) or fats (e.g. butter is not my friend) well. So, if you are sensitive like me, this may mean an adjustment period - especially if you are adding far more greens than you are used to. I also received the audio version - and for me, this format was ideal. However, I have a daily commute, and I was better at listening then I would have been if I was expected to read (I would have skimmed). There were also supplemental materials for the computer, so I didn't feel like I really missed out and could print the meal plans, et cetera. HOWEVER, lack of bookmarking was a negative.
Bottom line: If you're an athlete, this is probably how you eat already. However, the discussion of the hormonal triggers of metabolism was helpful and enlightening. I'm on the fence on if I would recommend it. I would enthusiastically recommend it to someone who considers themselves fairly sedentary (add cycling and Zumba - that's FUN). |

| I'm really glad I purchased the Perfect 10 Diet. It's easy to read and very full of good advice. I particularly like the last section where other diets were being reviewed. Lo Carb and Vegetarian diets were put in their place. Weight Watchers and the Dan Marino plan were also brought down to earth. The clear focus on the effects of all food and drink items on your hormoes was key. At the end of the day, the effects on hormones is what it's all about. Unfortunately, drinking was also established as a no no. But, a get the feeling with his cool logical approach that he's probably right about that one as well. Great read. | I bought this book for my husband because he is morbidly obese and eating the wrong foods. I am so glad that I bought it because it has opened our eyes to the things we are eating and the changes we should make in our diets. There are things we are eating that we think are good for us but they're not. This book is the best thing I ever purchased and I am glad that I did buy it. I hope it will change our lives and the lives of many other people. If you're on the fence about this diet book, don't be. It isn't a diet per say but a whole new way of eating food. Once you learn what you should eat, you will be surprised at the things you were eating all of your life and realize it was so wrong. Buy the book and read it, open your eyes to the truth. I am glad that I did. It may help cut down on the medications your taking. It will save you money and your life. |
