Top notch in the workout category! I am overjoyed with the easiness and the effectiveness of this plan!

Denise's Daily Dozen is not about donuts. When I opened this book the first sentence was a no holes barred approach:

Do you want to boost your metabolism, burn fat, tone up, and get into the best shape of your life?

Uhhh.... YEAH!

So what is Denise's book about?

I loved the layout of this book. For someone like me who tries really hard to be a whiz at time management and at the same time can be the Queen of procrastination.... this book is spot on.

What Denise is encouraging through this book is that in twelve minutes a day, you can complete her well balanced program that covers cardiovascular exercise, toning, and flexibility. And what I really like - is that each days twelve minute routine is different from the day before!

Monday: Cardio Fat Blast

Tuesday: Lower Body and Ab Workout

Wednesday: cardio kickbox workout

Thursday: Upper body and ab workout

Friday: Body Boot Camp Workout

Saturday: Athletic Kettlebell - inspired workout

Sunday: Yoga Stretch workout

Denise's book not only gives you practical tips for doing toning and working out anytime anywhere, (I love the squats while waiting for the toaster to pop up!) she also lays out many pages of nutrition facts as well as menu planning and day by day food choices to get you started.

I can't say enough positive things about this book. You don't need gym equipment or any fancy programs... you just need you and the will to get moving in a different direction. HIGHLY recommended from someone who has read many books on this topic and I have to say this is one of the best I have seen.

Started the daily dozen 4 weeks ago. My husband has reached his weight loss goal of 12 pounds in those 4 weeks. I have lost 10 lbs, within that time. I am not one to lose weight easily, so I am impressed with the eating plan. There are some great recipes in this book. We love the veggie quesadilla and fish tacos! The back of the book has easy to use shopping lists by the week. Take a look at the easy recipes in the back of the book once you are past week 3. LOVE the grilled artichokes with lemon vinegarette. We both feel we never went hungary and the easy to follow menus were excellent. One reviewer mentioned the shopping lists/menus had difficult to find items. I didn't find this true, you are going to purchase lean meats, high fiber whole grains, and numerous fruits and veggies. Oh, and nonfat cottage cheese, vanilla non fat yogurt and greek yogurt. Not difficulut to find at my local markets. My only caveat would be if you constantly eat out, be prepared to give that up. You are making your own meals and snacks, and there aren't a ton of suggestions for substitutions to make while dining out. Nothing crazy here, just common sense eating of lean protein, fruits, veggies, healthy fat and whole grains with an easy to follow exercise plan.

Reviewer: A. Baker,
This is, BY FAR, the BEST exercise book I have ever read. I should premise by saying that I didn't read it because I need to lose weight. I'm supposedly actually underweight. My interest in this book came from the fact that I NEED to start exercising, and I was hoping for a book that would motivate me and give me some tips.

This book did so much more than that. The focus was so much more on healthy living and healthy eating than to help you to lose weight than on diets or over-exercising to lose weight. It gives you healthy, balanced (and, unfortunately, not vegan) meal plans and exercise plans every day for three straight weeks, making following the Daily Dozen plan as easy as possible.

Having the exact exercises to do there in front of me made things so easy. I didn't have to think about which ones to do and the order in which to do them and for how long to do them. Denise did that for me. And with her bubble personality shining through on every page, I find myself excited to get up and exercise in the mornings. I have been exercising EVERY SINGLE DAY for the past two weeks (this is BIG for me, you guys!)

More importantly than that, I can already see a change. My arm and leg muscles are both starting to show more definition; I can actually feel my abs for once. And I have energy to do all of the mini exercises throughout the day that she calls Fidget-Cisers. It's just plain awesome.

Denise's Daily Dozen is full of practical tips and easy, step-by-step insructions as to how to lead a healthy life. They're so easy, and she's so upbeat about giving them to you, that you can't help but want to follow! Her system is a way of life, and she has given you enough to have step-by-step instructions for every day of that new way of life for as long as it takes for you to no longer need them.
This book is golden (even if I haven't used the non-vegan friendly meal plans at all), and I'm planning on buying a Daily Dozen CD when I really feel like I need new exercises.
Sound exercise and diet advice from a seasoned veteran of the workout world

I found this to be a very interesting exercise/diet/lose-weight book. I have loved Denise Austin since I did my first workout video with her in 1998, so I was excited to try out this book. I have always thought she had sound advice and good workouts and have continued to buy her workout videos to this day. Not to mention that the woman looks amazing.

Denise's Daily Dozen is full of exercises, meal plans, general tips and lots of inspiration. I found the exercises well-described and the exercise plans fun and interesting. I am still trying the program out but I very much enjoyed reading the book. Getting Denise's insights and success stories from other people were other highlights of the book to me. I look forward to continue following the exercise plan as it works well for the time and equipment I have available at this time. I am still on recovery and found the exercise plan great for now and when I am fully recovered.

The meal plans, recipes and eating part of the book appear to be very sound thinking - this is no crazy diet to try. Denise seems well-grounded in real life and the food sounds good without being too fussy.

Overall I see this as a great start the new year (or any time) diet/exercise/lifestyle plan. Nothing crazy here - just fun exercises and great advice.
love the book

I'm in this book every day. The recipes are wonderful and I've lost eight lbs in two and a half weeks. Don't do the exercises because both my hips are replaced but I'm doing 30 min of walking each day.
I tried to find out what her long range plan is after the three weeks but her website requires you join at $3.00 a week.

Doable!!

Reviewer: Luanne Ollivier,
Okay well let's just start off this post by saying...Denise Austin is 52 years old! Doesn't she look fantastic? Okay so how does she do it? Well she follows her own advice! It's a well kept secret but here goes....eat right and exercise. A lifestyle plan - not a diet.

In Denise's Daily Dozen, she's made it easy for those of us who moan that they don't have the time. Here's the deal - she's come up with 12 minutes of exercise to do every day of the week. Each day targets something different - cardio, abs, upper and lower body, yoga and more.

12 minutes! I can do that!

Now to go along with the 12 minutes a day in exercise, Denise has created meal plans for three weeks as well. No crazy grocery list - just everyday wholesome foods from Denise's 'Power of Twelve' eating plan - 3 fruits, 3 veggies, 3 proteins, 2 grains, 1 fat. The nutritional info for each day is listed too.

There are lots of extras tucked into the pages, text boxes full of great tips on shopping, time savers, going green, inspiration - including pics and stories from successful 'losers'! One of my favourites were the tension tamers - really quick stretches you can do at your desk to relieve stressed muscles. Another great idea are the fidget-cizers. Exercise while waiting for the kettle to boil, the toast to pop or firm your butt while talking on the phone!

I really liked this book. I've chosen to go at my own rate - and I thinks that's the beauty of it. There is so much great information included you can't help succeeding - whatever pace you set. I'm looking to get moving more and 12 minutes is soooo doable!

The book itself is well laid out and easy to read. The pictures of the different exercises are clear and easy to follow. It's in a weekly order, with everything you need for each day - meals and exercises. What's nice? The work is all done for you - all you need to do is follow along.

Easy to Use Plan/Book for Healthy Weight Loss

Losing weight, getting in shape, and being healthier overall, are common New Year's resolutions. Helping you to keep those resolutions is Denise Austin in her new book Denise's Daily Dozen. Denise Austin, a 52 year old (can you believe it!) fitness trainer with nearly thirty years experience, is a personal inspiration of what a healthy diet and regular exercise can do for you.

Denise's Daily Dozen is comprised of a Fitness Plan and an Eating Plan. The Fitness Plan includes a workout with three essential elements: "cardiovascular, toning, and flexibility in twelve easy moves you do for twelve minutes a day." Like most fitness trainers, however, Denise acknowledges that you should ultimately work up to thirty minutes a day. Still, according to Denise, on your busiest days the twelve minutes are enough. In addition to the Daily Dozen workouts, Denise prescribes twelve miles of cardio exercise weekly. Walking counts as fulfilling this requirement. The Eating Plan is basically a 1200 calorie a day meal plan that includes three servings each of veggies, fruits, and proteins with two of healthy grains and one of a healthy fat.

While much of the information, limit calories to around 1200 a day and perform 30 minutes of cardio day, is not new, it is put together in a user friendly format. With lots of pictures of the exercises and specific instructions (exercises and meal plans) for each day of the week, it is easy to follow. I also enjoyed the real life stories from women who lost weight following Denise's plan. Also helpful is the chapter "Twelve Meals You Can Make in About Twelve Minutes" because who isn't pressed for time? And lastly the weekly shopping lists promote quick and efficient shopping in that dieter's temptation den known as the grocery store.

Denise's Daily Dozen is a great do-it- yourself resource for losing weight the healthy way!

This is a great book. I've been a fan of Denise for many many years and I've never been disappointed with any of her dvd's. She has an extensive knowledge of health and fitness, and this book is so thorough and easy to follow. This is the first book I've read of hers and I am very happy with it. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get fit and healthy.

I've always liked Denise's tv workouts and she's very incouraging. This flows over into her book but I recommend getting the workout video along with the book. A little wordy for me but well organized material. I 'd recommend it to all ages.

This book is typical Denise--solid nutrition in easy to follow menus, along with easy to do exercise routines. The book's organization is a little different--it has Monday's menus and workouts for 3 weeks, then Tuesday, etc....and when you get through Sunday the first week you turn back to Monday and follow the second week's plan. It took me a while to "get" that; but after that I found it easy enough to follow. My health care professional has since had me cut out gluten, so the menus are not so appropriate for me now; but over all it's a good exercise and diet plan.
Good concept, but not easy to apply and editting is sloppy

I have enjoyed Denise Austin products in the past, so expected to have a similar experience this time.

I'm just finishing up week 2, with 6 lbs of weight loss. For the most part, I have found the meals to be very tasty and surprisingly filling, even on the low calorie count days. My husband has been surprised at that as well, and has been particularly shocked when he was satisfied with vegetarian meals. However, there are problems.

*The 12 exercises do NOT take just 12 minutes to do because you have to spend nearly that much time trying to figure out what it is that you need to be doing, especially when you are instructed to do two contradictory things with the same leg or arm (the problem is that one direction should have applied the left leg, and the other to the right, but both said the same leg). It would have been helpful for the book to come with a DVD demo-ing the exercises rather than just having the pictures and written instructions.
*Several of the recipes call for products that do not appear to be available in my area--ground chicken, Irish oatmeal, Amy's Vegetarian Bean Soup to name a couple.
*Some of the recipes obviously have missing ingredients--for example a "Turkey Pecan Salad" that has no pecans in the ingredients list.
*Sometimes different products are used when there doesn't seem to be a good reason. For example, why "whole grain" bread one day and "sprouted grain bread" the next?
*Several times "tortillas" are used, but no further information is given about them. My preferred brand of tortilla comes in an 8" and a 10" version. The 8" tortilla is 100 calories and the 10" tortilla is 200 calories, so there is a significant difference between the two.

I would also mention that as a person with Celiac disease, I would love to see Denise offer an on-line supplement with suggestions for substitutes when gluten containing products are used.
Too fast!!!!!

Review Date: March 12, 2010
Reviewer: Irma L. Gaudutis,
There are some great exercises in this video, however, Denise goes too fast. You should do some of these exercises to the count of 15 and she does maybe 3. Great exercises to make your own routine, but you can't expect to do them as fast as she does or you will not get the full benefit from them.
