One Persons Journey Through A World of Books Thoughts:

Review Date: January 3, 2010
Reviewer: Sheila A. Dechantal, Brainerd, Minnesota
I love journaling my way through projects and this journal is no exception. This is actually the type of journal I have looked for at book stores for years and could not find.

This is a workout and healthy eating journal that has you document your food and your exercise daily. With space for comments and goals.... it is an ideal way to keep track of your own personal fitness goals. The way this porgram was set up and by using the book to go along with the journal - I found this to be a great motivator.
Best Journal Ever

In my opinion this is the best Journal I have ever used. The only revision I would make is to make it a yearly format. Otherwise, it is well constructed and fun to use. It is a good tool in the weight loss battle.
Very helpful tool for someone who enjoys "homework"

I love the charts, the space for goals, the accountability and sense of being part of a plan without a monthly fee that this provides. Very helpful.
An Essential Ingredient for the Mayo Clinic Diet Book

Review Date: February 19, 2010
Reviewer: Joan Zatorski Puca, Tucson, Arizona, USA
I purchased the Mayo Clinic Diet Journal with a large dose of skepticism, thinking it was mostly a marketing scam that could easily be replaced by a spiral notebook & pencil. However, I'd promised my family & my physician that I'd give 100% of my effort to lowering my cholesterol & getting out of the "pre-diabetic" category. So along with the Mayo Clinic Diet Book, I also ordered the New Mayo Clinic Cookbook and the Mayo Clinic Diet Journal... and I'm very glad I did. Here's why:
If you think of the Mayo Clinic Diet Book as the primary text for a course, then the Mayo Clinic Diet Journal is its daily "workbook" of homework assignments. The journal contains thoughtfully coordinated activities, questions, tasks and tips that reinforce the material covered in the Diet Book. Certainly, reinforcement is a basic part of the learning process; but using the Diet Journal does something more. And it's that "something more" that makes The Mayo Clinic Diet such a success. By working in the journal AS you're reading the book, what you're DOING integrates with what you're READING. It's this basic but incredibly essential link that makes the Mayo Clinic Diet the "success-for-a-lifetime" that it is.
If you're buying The Mayo Clinic Diet..... then buy The Mayo Clinic Diet Journal at the same time. It will change your life for the good, for ever!
A definate "MUST HAVE" with the Mayo Clinic Diet Book!

This journal is a must have to accompany the book of the same title. It is easy to follow and will make your weight loss journey much more lucrative. I lost 6 pounds the first week and am in my fifth week with a total loss of 14 pounds. I have overcome many food addictions too. I have about 150 to lose all together. I have been on many diets over the past 20 years. I will never need to diet again. I eat a lot of food that is healthy and good for me. I don't feel deprived at all. I still eat chocolate or cake when I want to but in moderation. Writing it all down is the key! Get this journal and the book. You won't be disappointed. I am 48 years old and diabetic. I take a lot of medication. I plan on taking a lot less in the near future! Thank you Mayo Clinic!
Diets and Journals

The Mayo Clinic Diet Journal is easy to use, well organized and keeps me on track. It contains information that act as reminders regarding the principal and daily steps to follow the food program. Highly recommended.

The journal is divided into sections for the quick start diet. You record your daily goal and intake. Record your exercise activities daily and monitor your weigh weekly. There are words of encouragement and reminders if you go off program. Reviewing your log helps to identify what steps your failed to follow and the results. The journal has helped me to keep on track. I record at the end of each day and then review the past few days. I am at the end of the first section and will progress to the next level of the diet in a couple of days. The diet works if you follow the guidelines and suggestions.
a great tool

(see the diet book for full review)

The journal is not necessary for the diet, but is a helpful tool that will guide you through the program. It follows the timeline given in the book, includes space for meal plans, weekly weigh-in, a section for goals and notes for the day, places to record what you ate, and habit tracker, and even a daily food pyramid checklist. It could even be used independently of the diet book, but I recommend using both together because the book has a lot of helpful information, and the journal is a motivating way to put it into action.

Recommendation: Anyone who needs to loose weight but is afraid of "another diet." This is not the same diet you're used to. Again, I think "diet" is the wrong word. This is a new lifestyle.

One of the methods encouraged to help one change eating patterns, is to record what you are taking in and also expending the activity. This journal has it covered. The methods used also give a person a couple of different ways to look at the information. Very helpful.

Definitely get the journal. I think it is the key to success with this diet. It helps you track your calorie intake, your activities, and your progress. I have lost 8 pounds already, and it is getting easier as I incorporate the principles into my lifestyle. This is not rocket science; it is a shift in habits. You can be successful too!
Everything you need to do the Diet thing

I love having this journal. It is full of wonderful tips, great ideas, and even recipes. The best though, is the pyramid. Checking off the needed numbers for the day is very encouraging. You know at a glance if you need to add more fruits or veggies. Especially if you are not used to eating them very often. Fruits make a terrific dessert. Its the something sweet you sometimes crave and it will satisfy you. Can't ask for more.

My thoughts...I am going to do this backwards and start with the cons. Actually I should say con, because I see only one problem with the book and that is the title. The Mayo Clinic Diet. I believe the word DIET carries a negative connotation that leaves a bad taste (no pun intended) in your mouth. Also, after reviewing this, I don't believe this is a DIET plan, I believe it to be a smarter way to live your life and manage your health. This is not a rule book saying you have to eat cottage cheese 3 times a day or that you can never eat birthday cake again, it is a guide to establishing and maintaining a healthy weight. Keep reading.

The pros...This book is created by the brains at the Mayo Clinic. For those of you who are not familiar with "The Mayo Clinic, is a very large group of physicians and scientists who work together to care for patients. They treat more than 500,000 patients a year. They, if anyone, are the ones to take health advise from, which is why I decided to review this book.

Their plan is laid out in several steps:
1. add 5 healthy habits such as eat a healthy breakfast, eat fruits and veggies, eat whole grains, healthy fats and exercise. Common sense, right?
2. Break 5 habits such as no unhealthy sugars or snacks, moderate meats and eating out. Makes sense.
3. Adapt 5 bonus habits such as journaling, exercise, making better food choices.

It is all very simple and very achievable. So does it work? Well that is up to you. As the book recommends, you should take a quick quiz to be sure you are ready to make these simple changes in your life. If you cannot commit, it won't work and I don't need to be a doctor to tell you that.

The book also offers some recipes, such as the one found here, and some more health information for understanding your body. It is very thorough. It was accompanied by a really nice journal to keep track of your eating and exercising habits. The only thing I found the journal lacked was a specific column for tracking your fluids. Other than that it is very nice and very easy to use.

I had to laugh because one recommendation said "NO TV while eating and only as much TV time as you spend exercising." I don't watch much TV, but if I changed TV to BLOGGING in that sentence, I would probably look like a swimsuit model by Summer.

Overall I thought this book provided a great plan to optimize your health and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

I found this book very informative and looks like a good diet to go on. I plan on trying it and see how it works. Looks like one that you could stay on it the rest of your life because it teaches you how to eat.

This book packages all the known ways to lose weight and makes it into a program, no magic bullet. You have to eat right, watch portion size and exercise (which we all know and don't do).

It is a healthy alternative to the diet "fads". I will be starting it once back from vacation.
